The Wolf, 2008

Educational piece, Acrylic on Plaster.

Painted with acrylics and applied directly onto plaster using only a palette knife.  The plaster had been applied to an MDF board in a rough manner, leaving the surface bumpy and grainy to give the painting an interesting effect.

Untitled (Abstract #2), 2007

Clay, fired with coloured glazes.

This educational 3-D piece came under the theme of nature, but more specifically it speaks about life and growth.  It was inspired by branches and buds growing on trees and twigs that had fallen to the ground.

To create the piece, the clay was pressed into bark and twigs to leave a print on the surface.  This was then shaped into cylindrical forms with the smaller ones being arranged inside a larger one, similar to how you would find seeds within a pod.

Looking back on this piece it feels like the curling form of the clay resembles the shape of bark when it's removed from a tree.  Seen in this way it seems empty and dead, as though it's representing the skin without the life that should dwell within.  Even though there are small growths on the inside, really they are just more empty shells lacking in flesh or substance.

Untitled (Still-life with Shuttlecock and Climbing Shoe), 2007

Untitled (Still-life).  Oil on Canvas.  2007.

Educational piece to practice the use of Oil paint.  The exercise involved picking objects that were interesting to me at the time.  I was also told by my tutor not to use any black in the piece which I think really helped (I was making everything really dark).  It's much more colourful and bright as a result.

Waterhead, 2007

Educational Work, 2005

Self-Portrait with Britney Spears.  Diptych with General House Paint on Paper.  2005.

Educational work.

My Blog

I'm planning on posting some of my old work in chronological order up to the present day so I can see how my work has changed.  Most of it isn't very good but I wanted a complete record of my developing work.  A lot of it is educational work, and so is far from original but it was useful at the time as an exercise.
